The EHS Specialist will provide leadership in all aspects of training and environmental, health and safety systems by supporting, developing, implementing and monitoring operational processes/procedures.

Qualifications
The minimum qualifications required to complete the job responsibilities:

  • Education High School Diploma or Equivalent Some post-secondary education
  • Experience 1-3 years EHS experience; coaching others to success; MS Office Suite; Experience in organization safety programs
  • Certifications / Designations: (preferred) OSHA 30 Hour; Behavior based safety certification; Air emission certification
  • Job-Specific Knowledge and Skills: Excellent understanding of housekeeping and safety principles; meticulous attention to detail and ability to research and solve problems; ability to present positive communications to departmental employees; communication, coaching, counseling and influencing skills are essential; impeccable example of EHS integrity; flexibility in working hours so as to be available when needed; OSHA knowledge

Key Responsibilities
These responsibilities represent the major areas of work and must constitute a minimum of 5% of working time, or are otherwise considered other duties as assigned. Health & Safety and Quality and Environmental responsibilities must be documented in this section, if applicable.

  1. Lead behavior based safety and compliance initiatives according to company expectations and government regulations to ensure a safe, aware, responsive and compliant work environment
  2. Develop, implement, maintain, monitor and coordinate key training initiatives including required safety training as required by business strategies to ensure a safe, aware, responsive and compliant work force
  3. Lead, facilitate and participate when appropriate in continuous improvement initiatives including accident investigations, root cause analysis of incidents, 8D discussions and safety aspects of new processes or equipment according to company expectations to ensure continuous improvement in our production, safety and environmental processes
  4. Foster an environment where employees will willingly make extra effort to exceed safety, health and environmental goals and initiatives and look for opportunities to improve our processes and develop a lean, responsive and knowledgeable workforce
  5. Develop, implement, collect samples and audits and assists outside contractors with adherence to all applicable environmental internal and governmental regulations for air, wastewater, hazardous waste, storm water, according to industry standards to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
  6. Apply and provide accountability of all safety rules, participation in safety practices, LOTO standards and wearing of PPE according to company standards and government regulations in order to facility a safe working environment. Assist management with communication and compliance of company strategic initiatives

Physical & Sensory Effort

Normal office environment approximately 50%-75% of the time; Low frequency lifting up to 50 lbs; physical demands include low frequency lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, walking and climbing over 4 feet . High frequency of visual and audio monitoring of processes. High frequency of visual monitoring auditing of safety and environmental processes. High frequency data entry of necessary information.

Working Conditions

Normal office environment up to 50% - 75% of time. Could be exposed to outside conditions year round; Low frequent exposure to molten metal at temperatures reaching 1300 degrees F. Low frequent exposure to extreme ambient temperatures depending on the season. Low frequent exposure to overhead loads, confined space, loud noise and dust.
