The Chief Engineer maintains the engine room and refrigeration equipment and the necessary preventive maintenance to all pertinent equipment.

Job Summary: The Chief Engineer maintains the engine room and refrigeration equipment and the necessary preventive maintenance to all pertinent equipment.
Specific Duties and Requirements:
- Maintenance: Performs preventive maintenance programs for all aspects of the refrigeration system. Performs repairs on refrigeration system and routine maintenance on other related systems, i.e. evaporators, condensers, pumps, etc.
- Building: Maintain electrical, as well as heating and cooling equipment. Performs maintenance or general carpentry to such items as doors, floors, levelers, down spouts, product racks, and so forth.
- Reporting: Complete required reports when maintenance tasks are completed.
- Safety, Sanitation, Security: Maintain a clean, neat and orderly work area. Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse. Conduct operations is a manner which promotes safety.
Qualifications:
- Experience or Training Required: Prior ammonia experience is essential
- License or Certificate Required: RETA certification within three years on the job; Forklift operator certification; Respirator Fit-Test

- Have a strong resistance to cold atmosphere
- Must be organized
- Ammonia training and certification
- Able to follow verbal and written instruction
- Excellent mechanical skills
- Able to give direction
- Must provide seal for respirator (clean-shaven)
- Understands a supervisor’s role
- Basic understanding of electricity
- Able to work various shifts
- Good health – able to respond to emergencies
- Own transportation to and from work
