Responsible for providing metallurgical support Aluminum extrusion and machining operations. As well as providing analytical support to the quality and manufacturing operations regarding composition and properties of extruded aluminum throughout the operation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical/metallurgical support to plant, internal sales group, external sales group, and end customer (direct and end user) personnel as required. Act as principal liaison between customer and plant on quality and technical issues.
- Develop and implement metallurgical practices as necessary to support efforts in product development, quality, and recovery to achieve and surpass metallurgical KPIs.
- Provide quality assurance support. Disposition MRB, claims, discrepant shipments, etc., as necessary in order to sustain “Best in Class” levels of quality and promote customer satisfaction.
- Maintain customer and industry specifications. Ensure correct practices, sampling, testing, etc. are associated with each specification. Review incoming specifications for acceptability and communicate any exceptions to customers.
- Prepare required operational reports and guidelines.
- Manage metallurgical processes and projects.
- Assist in the development, review, and implementation of operating procedures.
Education and Experience:
- An undergraduate degree in metallurgy or materials science is required. Advanced Degree preferred.
- 5 years relevant experience in the aluminum or related (e.g., aerospace) industry (10+ years preferred).
- University degree in Metallurgical/Chemical Engineering from an accredited program;
- Understanding and experience in process control and continuous improvement.
- Solid technical and analytical skills combined with sound practical judgement.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and coaching skills with the ability to lead a team; and work effectively with cross shift and other departments.
- Strong PC skills, including Windows, Word, Excel, and various data collection and analysis packages to be self-sufficient in analysis and report writing.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; as well as organizational skills.
- Read and understand manuals, work instructions and production control system.
- Utilize applicable measuring equipment, schematics and control plans.
- Demonstrate leadership skills based on the value of each individual employee as a team member.
- Ability to work in teams and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
