Tooling Engineer Horizontal & Vertical Castings


•Design gating systems for horizontal and vertical molding of sand castings and design/conduct experiments to validate the gating/risering protocol with the goal of improving casting quality while eliminating design inefficiencies

•Utilizes solidification modeling experiments

•Document best practices and develop methods and processes to use in future work.

•Review customer requests for engineering changes and determine tooling requirements and costs to quote and produce the desired customer end part

•Ensure tooling is built on time, to budget  and will provide parts that meet specifications

•Work with outside tooling vendors to provide tooling quotations for new tooling and converting  existing tooling

•Utilizes latest technologies being utilized by foundries to create or modify works in CAD including digital scanning, solidification modeling, CNC machining and three-dimensional printing

•Oversee the technical aspects of the foundry and develop a system for documenting procedures and driving continuous improvement in the operation

•Coordinate with department supervisors on projects, experiments and process changes

•Research the latest equipment and technology available to the foundry and make recommendations to the management team for purchases and upgrades

•Maintain existing and develop new procedures for pouring high quality, castings with a focus on eliminating casting defects and process inefficiencies

•Seven + years’ experience as a Tooling Engineer within a ferrous foundry sand casting facility

•AutoCad, SolidWorks, ProE, MagmaSoft Etc..
