Commercial Concrete Contractor Seeks Concrete Superintendent

Description:

Reports to VP of Operations

1. Responsibilities
The superintendent is above the foreman and travels to all of our jobsites, looks ahead, makes sure we have everything we need, schedules the guys, coordinates with the GCs, and has a strong sense of the work.  He must be willing to take on a $5+ million concrete job with from foundations to topping out framed slabs.
The Superintendent provides leadership and is responsible for, although not limited to:
1. Supervising foremen and crew members
2. Ensuring the safety of foremen and crew members
3. Productivity of foremen and crew members
4. Following OHSA and safety guidelines
5. As a key participant in the relationship with the contractors, and our client, the Superintendent must maintain a professional appearance.
The Superintendent has the following specific areas of responsibility:

a. Leadership and Supervision
The Superintendent coordinates the foremen, and must understand and consistently apply the company policies. The Superintendent is required to be involved and making day to day decisions.
This includes: 
1. Communicating the job to and with the foremen
2.  Assigning foremen tasks
3.  Maintaining work standards and outlining behavioral expectations to ensure foremen morale and productivity
4.  Applying the principles of workplace respect on site
5.  Ensuring foremen compliance with project policies and procedures
6.  Ensuring foremen compliance with company policies and procedures

b. Planning and Scheduling
The Superintendent is accountable for following project plans and schedules and ensuring that foremen and crew under his/her direction perform daily and weekly activities to meet production goals.
This includes:
1. Translating general work requirements into a prioritized work plan for the crew
2. Working with the foremen to overcome work challenges
3. Periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production

c. Employee Relations
The Superintendent must champion an inclusive employee relations culture, is accountable for the adherence to policies and procedures by the crew to ensure a respectful and inclusive work environment.

This includes:

1. Recognizing, addressing and resolving issues
2. Promoting, supporting and facilitating teamwork and harmony between all foremen and crew members by promoting and fostering a positive, visible teamwork attitude among all crew members

d. Quality Control
The Superintendent is accountable for ensuring that the completed work and jobs conditions meets quality standards.
This includes:
1. On-site assessment prior to commencing work to ensure that the job is ready, and addressing any concerns
2. Overseeing the execution of the work, including quality and production, ensuring that the foremen work to job specifications and follows the plans
3. Inspecting and measuring completed work

2. Knowledge, Skills, Attitude and Safety

Knowledge
Knows and Understands:
1. Employment standards and company policies
2. How to read plans
3. How to calculate concrete/stone quantities
4. Understand and perform basic job layout
5. Understand basic rebar layout and tying
6. Can direct and understand trenching crews and excavation details
7. Understand flat concrete and curb forming and pouring

1. Lead the foremen and crew
2. Effectively communicate orally and in writing, with good comprehension
3. Coach and teach foremen members
4. Apply good problem solving and conflict resolution skills
5. Manage differences and diversity at the work site

7. Handle the administrative duties of position, including completion of required documents

Safety
The Superintendent must provide leadership that results in a safe work culture, is responsible and accountable for the safety of the foremen and crew under his/her direction, and must understand and accept the importance and legal liability of the role.
This includes:
1. Knowing, understanding, communicating and ensuring compliance with the OHSA, and company safety policies and procedures
2. Facilitate mandatory safety tool box meetings
3. Ensuring completion of initial safety and hazard assessments
4. Ensuring that vehicle, tools and equipment are maintained and serviced 
 

3. Qualifications
1. Has 5+ years experience as a qualified and competent Superintendent
2. Has a valid and clean driver’s license
