Description:
Overview:
- Leads department in the development of drawings from customer contact (via Sales) and initial concept, through proposals and on to shop drawings; assigns project work based on experience of staff and scope of work; works to develop individual potential of all reports; monitors his department’s activity for change orders and customer feedback, communicating with estimating and Accounts Receivable to ensure billings cover all aspects of initial designs and change orders; is responsible for designs and final assemblies being functional and cost effective
- Monitors status of all projects in his department; functions as coordinating project manager for major contracts, working on design details with individual CAD designers; during peak demand periods, will personally manage some projects in their entirety
- Administers design data files archive, ensuring all drawing and BOM files are accurate and current, including final ‘as-built’ data for future reference and ‘legacy’ files of projects; maintains standards for component design in support of parts sales and component replacements
- Maintains open communication between his department and all peer groups including field representatives. Interacts with customer representatives including their third-party engineering and contracting companies
- Supports all company policies including, but not limited to, safety, both in practice and in design
Activities:
- Directs staff of four to six including:
- CAD Designers
- Estimators
- QA/QC Inspection Interacts on daily basis with:
- Production/QA Manager
- Shop Foreman
- Purchasing Manager
- General Manager
Desired minimum qualifications:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering; alternatively BS in Structural Engineering may be considered, depending on work experience
- Ten years work experience in a metal fabricating or manufacturing environment
- Five years supervising a department or work cell of at least four other engineers or CAD drafters
- Expert proficiency in both AutoCAD™ and SolidWorks™
